last post was about how i managed to get into a yves saint laurent project by showstudio, this time i have a new announcement to make. if it's true i didn't got none of my scripts to be done, another of my statements was written in another of the videos. in addition a question was made out of it for the contest the site is running to win a bag from the ysl 24 line (the pic above). all this is making me closer to natasha poly, stefano pilati and nick knight. could one of you just hire me? and i want to win the bag.

well i'm not gonna to play modesty here. i know i could do -sooner or later- something great in fashion history. but i never thought i was going to be that soon.
like two months ago the cult fashion website showstudio was doing sort of a constest for a playwright to a mini film they were doing along the great french fashion house of yves saint laurent and his new line 24. they were asking people to submit their own script besed on some ideas they gave to you. i sent two.
then they asked for submit some ideological statements to be included in the film.
by now 12 of the 24 scenes has been revealed. yet, none of those scenes i wrote have been uploaded, so i dont know if they chose them. but, but... yeah one of my political statements got a prime close up in one scene. i couldn't believe it and i even had to check if it had been me who wrote it...
anyways i'm part of the ysl history and closer to nick knight.

last friday I was interviwed as one of the young fashion journalist of my country. since i'm not journalist and there's not a fashion bussiness in here i took it very loose and went with not expectations to the interview. it happened to be very pleasant until it came the unavoidable cliché question: who are your favorite designers?
what should i answer? i've never sat and think about who are they... i even think i really dont like a designer in particular but collections by some designer.
it would be right to say that since sometimes i can love what consuelo castiglione does for marni and then, next season hate it all.
anyways i had to give an answer. i went for the obvious and here i come with it.

1. hedi slimane: everybody knows he is actually my favorite designer. but what i really love is his aesthetics and wy to understand the young lads who want practical, luxurious but at the same time very wearable clothes. he's probably the only designer who has really dare and succesfully work his menswear in the past 50 years. i know he's doing nothing but taking pics and doing some other collaborations even as stylist, but i had to name it. that's what i love of him, he has a vision and he's constant with it in everything he does.

2. karl lagerfeld: how not to mention him. he's absolutely the king of fashion. maybe he's not the more good looking man in the world but he has to be one of the more talented. how he manages to create and supervise almost ten collections a year? he does chanel, fendi and his own and in all he adds his vision respectinc the tradition of the house. in addition how not to love him: he's the man who lost weight in order to wear hedi slimane and now is obssesed with thinness.

3. nicolas ghesquière: oh, oh, oh. that's the only thing you can say when you talk about ghesquière. always surprising, edgy, modern and at the same time conceptual. his fashion is not for everyone and he could be misunderstood because he never restrains his creatitivity. taking clues from balenciaga's own work and incorporing some avant-garde architectural and youthful approach he has made the french maison in a cult. i could say he is the very first great designer of this current century.

4. viktor & rolf. fashion for art sake. that should be their motto. this couple of dutch designers had made wow paris collection after collection. sometimes they go too further in his conceptualization of the clothes and their shows end up being the laughing stock of the fashion world. but that doesnt stop them from making matriuskas and bells couture dresses to chanel and real subtle and floating wearable clothing. they definetly are the crazy ones of the crowd and the ones having more fun.

5. hussein chalayan: you have to remember this guy buried his graduation collection. hussein chalayan is the more conceptual guy in the fashion world. he always think of the nature and how it affects the human being. he has gone to bankrupcy more times than donald trump and always he comes alive from his ashes to make another exquisite collection. last years he has gone more commercial but at the same time has incorpored some mechanicals and electrical devices to his clothes what makes them stunning.

is copying a part of the creative process?
this could be the question everybody should be asking after a sort of dissapointing ny fashion week.
everybody has taken it on marc jacobs: the two hours delay in his show, the supposed drinks at the mercer, the backwards show , the similarities on his collection with the works of martin margiela and rei kawakubo, the shoes from junko shimada and the "hommage" to the old skool vans in his marc by marc show.
but have you noticed everybody is copying everybody these day? some call it references but some others is a vulgar copy. and i'm not protesting about high fashion retailers such as h&m, zara, gap or forever 21 which are just cheaper versions of what have been seen on the runways, but other great, expensive with loads of publicity designers.
my example today is phillip lim and his 3.1. collection. I must say i like the subtle way lim creates his clothes. his spring 2007 collection and then fall were great at my eyes. but why this was so lame this season? why did he imitate chistopher kane (who already was channeling gianni versace's early 90's work) marc jacobs (who's been said to be just a recollector of vintage finds) and madame grès (a great reference but too overused). here i'm not trying to defend marc, nor copying. i'm just asking myself: is there anything new in fashion anyways?

The Stylish Video or How Much Roisin Murphy Loves Gareth Pugh and Avant-Garde Designers

ok maybe you will say i'm a little bit obssesed with miss roisin murphy. the true is i really never liked her very much. when she was in moloko i barely could stand sing it back. i know now i dance it whenever it's spun, but back then i wasn't crazy about that song. she looked to me like another funny chubby singer. then it came the ramalamayanmanan thingy. not into it neither.
but what happened? she changed... her music is probably a little bit catchier for me, less funky more disco. overpowered her new album is about to hit the stores next month and almost two months ago she released her first single which i posted here. in the cover of the overpowered single she was wearing a viktor & rolf total look with spotlights and clogs included (for those who don't know viktor & rolf are some of my favorite designers). for the video of that single she wore british uncomprenhesible rick owens protegé gareth pugh. and she must adore him. for her second single -let me know- guess what she is wearing for the artwork in the cover? aha! yeah! another of the strange pugh's desings. in the video, a disco diner extravaganza, murphy chooses another of the great designers of the last decades, the unknown martin margiela, but she doesn't leave aside her pal gareth and takes a transparent trenchcoat of his latest collection to put it over the simplicity of margiela's work.

Old Skull

when everybody thought the skull and crossbones mania had been left in the past, and you all had hidden and denied your skelleton crush, there comes the $ 100 million man and makes you think to give it a second chance. after being the symbol of 2006 hipster summer, the skull has been re-edited by one of the greats of the contemporary art. the man who makes the tate museum to buy him a shark, the man who makes colored spots pictures, the man of the pills hanging in the zillionares walls and the man of the fucking diamond skull. yeah! damien hirst now has a clothing line. well in theory it's not his, but it does have his name tagged on it. last weekend the levi's factory x unveiled its collaboration with the british artist, and guess what? there were some skulls. skulls in tees, skulls in pendants, skulls in pants, skulls everywhere. i must admit i'm not into the skully thingy anymore, however i liked some of the old school looks with a little bit sixities hip: the zippery jeans, the hats (damn i look awful in hats), the wayfarers (the look that next year we all will be hiding) and some of the jackets. well the good news are that they don't cost $ 100 million like the infamous "masterpiece", but about $ 100. So those are affordable, wearable and collectible items. it's like wearing cheap art, ain't?

Dancing Shoes

if there's something I like in the world that's dancing. then there it goes shoes. i must confess that dancing -and some cool clothes-has been my most succesful feature when it comes to flirt and make advances in a guy. in order to rock the floor properly - as i usually do- it's imperative to wear a pair of comfy shoes, but at the same time it's necessary to have them visually striking to not only cause some impact with the movements and ass shaking but with your outfit. for a/w 2007 the option are these beauties magenta booties from lanvin. i think they're flashy enough to catch the attention of your dancing mates but also cool down and relaxed. well i would be afraid of someone splitting some liquor on the velvet or satin surface, but what the hell? just play some artic monkeys tune and let me be -as in the paraphrased words of abba- the dancing queen.

Behind the Velvet Ropes

when I was a teenager I used to watch this fashion tv program called behind the velvet ropes with lauren ezersky. A jewish eccentric woman who always were running up and down nyc trying to get in and crash every single fashion party or show. anyways this doesnt have anything to do with my post besides she was really tacky and it was on the 90's. she was of the kind wearing animal prints, flashy jewelry and expensive shoes very gianni. and I like flashy and tacky and i liked gianni at that too.
and example of much i like this tackyness are dresses from british wunderkind and sort of donatella versace's protegé christopher kane. his first collection channeling versace's 80's work made him famous and people of the likes of carine roitfeld were wearing his neon very ornated dresses. for fall he went further with the versace theme taking the 1992 bondage collection and adding velvet and leather, pleating it and putting some rocks on it. i love how horrible his dresses are how they would make you look like a s/m santa girl. awful but still lovely.

Short Skirt and Long Jacket

well well well, summer is ending (although here in the third world is neverending) but since i'm moving early next year and the last month of this very current i'll offty to london i've been thinking what could suit me better as outerwear for protecticng myself from the freezing cold of the european cities. i've been saving some money money money to buy a really nice coat i could wear during the whole season and maybe in posterior years. here there are my options.
1. the shiny jacket: dior homme metallic sherling leather jacket. i think it would be perfect, it's something everybody's going to remember and it's a collectible item because is from hedi slimane's last season in the french house. practicity: since i'm a shorty it would be grat because it's cut at the waist, but the sherling can be too much if like last year it's not cold enough. in any case i could wear just a tee or a shirt inside. cost: 3471 euros. Is it really worth it?

2. the white cardigan. phillip lim 3.1. military style cardigan in 100% fine merino wool. hmm this option from phillip lim is nice the wheater don't get too coldy. i like the color and the fact is double breasted which is going to be the must this season. this cardi can look good either with jeans or dressier pants. practicity: this is gonna work only if it doesn't snow . i could not wear it with a thick scarf beacuse it would become too chunky and the white is gonna get dirty at the moment i just go out to the street. cost: 695 $. I think the price is right.

3. the quilted jacket. bolongaro trevaro cropped quilted mac analine napa leather. i like the whole rock n' roll meets british heritage feeling going on in this jacket. paired with skiny jeans and some big sneakers is tha bomb. the quilting makes me think of chanel or burberry although this is from a relatively unknown couple of british designers. sometimes is good to have something people ask you where did you get it and then drop the name and look people saying whaaaaatz? practicity: the whole jacket is perfect per se, you can wear it closed or open. it also has pockets for protecting from the cold and a lot of straps to adjust it to fit. price: n/a but it's in pounds. this shit is gonna be goddamn pricey for sure.

4. the bizarre jacket. ATO two layer sport jacket. This jacket is divided in two layers: the external in wool and the internal in some king of pvcish material. the main feature of this jackets is you can wear it open as seen in the pic and when it closes the pvc material becomes a very strange kind of scarf/hood for protecting from the freezing cold. it has non seasonable potential so i could be wore for several years. but the brand is totally unknown, even for me. practicity; it's cute, strange and accomplish it's functions, i'd wish to know if the internal layer is detachable. cost: 1014 euros. somehow okay but a little bit pricey for being a non known brand.

5. the brown leather jacket. rick owens washed snap collar leather jacket. what i really like about this jacket is the texturized leather and the whiskey brown color. although it is from rick owen known for being a fashion maverick is quite adaptable for any situation. the knit finishes in the sleeves could give you some extra protection when required. practicity: the jacket is perfect, it does not have flaws but lacks of some babababoom impact. it could be worn for years and not being just that jacket from 2007. cost: 1588 euros. quite expensive.

6. the cape. john richmond wool cape coat. if you wanna look excentric you gotta have it. it has a goth mood and would be perfect to make impressive entrances. probably not very wearable everyday the key brooch detail is kinda cute. practicity: does a cape cover you enough? i don't know but if does, the posibilities of matching it with a variety of outfists is almost non existant. you can wear it to go to de opera and do look like the phantom. however it does impact. cost: 613 euros. okay but is a cape.

I love this video from showstudio.com. it was realeased as a short film by photography wunderkind nick knight announcing the nominees to the cfda womenswear award. it's a shame they didn't include the rodarte clothing. the model is the seen-even-in-your-cousin-bar-mitzvah-or-first-communion agyness deyn. i personally think her short hair and cool attitude is what has made herself a top model. enjoy it and comment.

when i first knew about the hedi's departure from dior homme my angst wasn't he was leaving. i knew, know and i'm pretty sure he's going to come back as tom ford did and many others (including roland mouret) have done. my main concern was about the aesthetic hedi had conceived to a brand to which i felt really identify to. skinny clothes for skinny people who like to rock 'n roll.
what kriss van asche showed were a lot of impossible pants to wear who reminded me of the godfather trilogy. sicilian mob wool pants wide enough to carry potatoes for a whole army with the weapons inside. such a big dissapointment, just awful mc hammer pants with a few nice shirts. i'm going into cerruti's clothing designed by another hedi's ex assistant: nicolas andreas taralis. edgy and skinny cut for boys who like and know about good clothing and having fun with it.

Hi you loyal fans... (If there was any sometime)

It has been almost 8 months since the last time I posted something here. Now I'm back. I feel I have to dedicate more time to my fashion addiction over other stupid things I've been doing lately. Yeap, working, but that's not that important since I have new plans in my life and this blogs along with other projects will become very important for me.
Some things have changed in the past few months... some of them dissapointing, some of them cheerful.
E.G. Dior Homme is not longer designed by the venerable Monsieur Hedi Slimane. By now Mr. Kriss Van Asche has took over the fashion house that everybody knows is one of my favorites along with H&M.
Also, Monsieur Roland Mouret has made a stunning comeback from the shadows. His Satellite Collection is already on pre sale on Net-a-Porter.com
So. Stay tuned.
